In recent years, creative industry as a new industry has become the strategy andpillar industry of economic development in many countries and regions, creativeproducts which replaced the traditional manufacturing products have become the mostdynamic products in international trade, growing more and more important status. Theeconomy has been hit in Europe and the United States in the2008global financialcrisis, and it resulted in decreasing of the import in many countries and declining inworld trade. However, creative products trade contrarian up, the export of globalcreative goods and service increases from2670million to5920million from2002to2008, the annual growth rate is14%and it is one of the most fastest growth areas ininternational trade, presenting obvious effect in promoting economy. Creative industryand trade provide great-leap-forward development opportunities for China, which arebeneficial for the entry of China into the world’s fast economic growth area, thetransformation of foreign trade development mode and the improvement of industrialstructure. Nowadays, the creative industry has developed rapidly and the export ofcreative goods has growth fast, it is the world’s largest exporter in creative products.But the export markets of China’s creative products mainly concentrated in the UnitedStates, the European Union, APEC and other countries and regions, the trade effecthas not been reflected with ASEAN countries, India, Russia and other emergingmarket. The market still has great development space in the circumstance that regionalcompetition and cooperation increased gradually.The paper calculated trade integration index, trade complementarity index,regular market share model and export similarity index in creative good trade betweenChina and the main countries of ASEAN by using creative economy database ofUNCTAD in order to reflect the closeness of relation, complementarity, tradepotential of creative merchandise trade and competitiveness in the world market. It isfavorable for China to correctly judge the future development space in creative goodtrade with ASEAN and select key development areas, then to further the creative goodmarket of ASEAN and better promote the development and integration process ofcreative products trade between them, which enables the adjustment of trade regionalstructure and product structure in our country’s creative good trade.The findings of this paper show that China and the main countries of ASEAN arebecoming increasingly close in creative good trade. Inter-industry trade is main and intra-industry trade is on a small scale between them, China and Singapore havestrong complementarity and relatively small competitive in creative good trade, butthe competition has risen greatly in recent years. China and other major countries ofASEAN have strong complementarity in some products but not in comprehensivecomplementarity, and the competition is fierce, but with the improvement of level ofspecialization in each other, the degree of competition has weakened. The two sideswill have a continued growth in creative good trade in the future, there is tremendouspotentiality in creative good trade between China and ASEAN. The internationalcompetitiveness of most of the creative products of China is stronger than that ofASEAN countries except performing arts and audio-visual products.Finally, the paper put forward policy recommendations on how to make full useof complementarity in creative good trade between China and ASEAN and select keyareas and key countries, then promote the development of the creative good trade onthe basis of the front study.
