Taiwan’s electronics and information industry (ICT industry) rise in the early1980s, entered thegolden period of rapid growth in the1990s. It replaced the traditional industry and became a leadingand pillar of Taiwan’s economic development. As a pillar industry of Taiwan’s economy, ICT industryplays a vital role the entire socio-economic in Taiwan. In this paper, I will review the history of thedevelopment of Taiwan’s ICT industry, research and analysis the current situation, to draw the actualsituation of Taiwan’s ICT industry at this stage, and learn the advantages and problems, and proposetargeted countermeasures and suggestions to deal with the problems. In this paper, the main theory arethe product life cycle theory, the value chain model and Porter’s five forces model. I will analysisTaiwan’s ICT industry from multi-angle and multi-level. The specific situation of Taiwan’s ICTindustry is that Taiwan’s ICT industry is in the process of transition from growth to maturity. Theirposition in the global value chain is improved by improving the ability of designing andmanufacturing and maintaining brand. larger the the Competitive pressures in the global market,mainly caused by an oversupply which is caused by the high buyer bargaining power and frommainland China, India, Korea and Brazil and other peer competitors or potential rivals, is large.Finally, the paper give some countermeasures and suggestions about ICT industry developmentdirection from the policies, systems, technology and structure. Such as focusing on collaboration andintegration of industrial chain, adjusting the industrial structure, emphasizing on intellectual propertyrights, and strive to build its own brand in Taiwan, strengthening the cooperation between two shores.
