With the further development of China’s economy, China civil aviation grows faster, thecompetition among airlines also becomes fiercer and fiercer. In order to adapt to the demands ofcompetition, and to get the profit maximization, more and more airlines use revenue managementsystem in their routine works. Overbooking is one of the earliest and most commonly used methodsadopted by air lines for revenue management. This paper bases on the summarization of thedevelopment history of overbooking researches, mainly focuses on the operation and managementmethods of passenger overbooking, includes contents as follows:Firstly, design mathematical model on the operation of overbooking. For single-leg-single-classflight, set up the minimizing flight cost as the objection function, take group passengers into consider,build an overbooking model based on the traditional binomial distribution model, and design asolving program for it. On this basis, still set up total minimizing cost as the objection function, takethe effect of the number of DB passengers from previous flight into consider, build mathematicalmodel and find its solving methods for multiple flights route. Verify the models’ correctness andalgorithm efficiency.Secondly, due to the limitation that it requests long time and large RAM to solve the problem above,a heuristic system, which is the reasoning and decision support system for overbooking based on casedatabase, is offered on the basis of the solution program to evaluate and analyze the crucial problemof case adaptation and determination, that provides a new solution to solve reservation problems.Thirdly, according to the recent situation that airlines and passengers have serious dispute onoverbooking, and legal profession, academia and the media almost on-sided oppose overbooking inour country, this paper analyses and summarizes the processing methods of foreign airlines in similarsituations, provides management suggestions both before sale and after DB happen, so as to frame anairline overbooking management system protecting the passengers’ rights of knowing and claim,...
