To develop the pillar industries is an important method to accelerate thetransformation of the mode of economic development and to promote the optimizationand upgrading of industrial structure, which also plays a very strategic role instrengthening the overall economic power and comprehensive competitiveness of aregion or country. In recent years, as the traditional industrial base, Tianjin, has firmlygrasped the strategic opportunity, which is to develop and opening-up of Binhai new areaaround the country, and to construct Tianjin as economic center of northern China,trying hard to strive to build a high-end, high-quality, high-tech industrial structure, todevelop the eight advantages pillar industry, namely, the aerospace, petrochemicalindustry, advanced equipment manufacturing, electronic information, biological medicine,new energy, new materials, light and textile industry and defense science and technologyetc, which has strongly promoted the healthy and sound economic development ofTianjin. At present, with the rapid development of Tianjin industrial and the profounddevelopment environmental changes of industries the development of pillar industrieshas come into a new stage, which requiring the new breakthrough of scientificdevelopment and taking the lead in development through the transformation andupgrading of the breakthrough,.Based on the above-mentioned consideration, the thesis has tried to make researchto the pillar industry development of Tianjin and studied their transformation andupgrading. Firstly, a reviewing has been made to the concept of pillar industry andindustry transformation theory, by trying to summarize and combine the international&domestic pillar industry development experience.Secondly, with the method of SWOT,a brief analysis and evaluation have been undertaken to the pillar industry’s developmentactual situation, its advantages and disadvantages of Tianjin and its in-externalquestions. And the last by using comparative analysis, combining qualitative andquantitative analysis method, the suggestions have been offered to the development ofpillar industries in Tianjin, and for selecting typical industry for further.
