Due to the dual economics structure and economic system reform, the income gap between urban and rural residents gradually expand while economic development of Sichuan Province has made rapid development. The income gap between urban and rural areas hampered the improvement of consumer demandIn this paper, on the basis of the relevant research literature and1978-2011statistics, study the relationship between Sichuan urban-rural income gap and consumer demand since the economic reform and opening up. Firstly, analysis the changes and trends of the income gap between urban and rural in Sichuan from1978to2011;secondly,on the one hand, analysis the trend of consumption level,on the other hand,analysis the trend of consumption structure. Thirdly, based on the permanent income hypothesis, study the relationship between urban-rural income gap and consumer demand.The results of study show:(1) since the economic reform and opening up, the income gap between urban and rural residents continues to expand,but the consumption level of residents gradually reduce down;(2)by the analysis of consumption structure,find the consumption style of residents in urban is gradually to the enjoyment, while the most income of rural residents is spent on food and housing;(3)the expansion of the income gap between urban and rural residents.which has a bad impact on the development of the overall consumption level;(4)the permanent income between urban and rural residents play a positive impact on the difference of urban and rural residents consumption;(5)the consuming style of urban residents have demonstration effect。By this paper, hope reveal the fact that the income gap between urban and rural residents has a positive impact to the overall consumption level, and post own small insights.
