| The sunlight greenhouse industry, has become a significant comparative advantage in the Gansu Province agricultural economy, contributing to increasing farmer incomes. The sunlight greenhouse industry in Yongchang County of Gansu has developed rapidly and is characterised by efficient use of resources, labor intensity and production automation. The growth of the sunlight greenhouse industry in Yongchang County is currently playing a strategic and significant role in ecological conservation and rural economic development in the region, with benefits for the entire Shiyang river basin in which it is located. This study analyses the development situation of the sunlight greenhouse industry in Yongchang County using collected data and literature review. and discusses the development bottleneck of sunlight greenhouse industry in the area, then expounds the countermeasures available to the sunlight greenhouse industry in Yongchang County. The results are as follows:1. Yongchang County has developed sunlight greenhouse industry since1992. Yongchang County has constructed7000sunlight greenhouse with an area of6490mu across ten towns in2012. In2005, the vegetable production of sunlight greenhouses was17125.70tons, and the production value was104.425million yuan in Yongchang County. The vegetable production of sunlight greenhouse increased to31169.60tons until2012and the production value increased to217.512million yuan, an average annual growth rate of9.61%. A variety of species are cultivated in sunlit greenhouses in Yongchang County, including peppers, eggplant, cucumber, tomato, gourd, sweet melon, strawberry, ginseng fruit and flowers. Each standard sunlight greenhouse was granted subsidies of12000-20000yuan, or was provided loan with free interests for three years. Allowance for rebuilding a standard sunlight greenhouse is5000yuan. The government actively promotes pollution-free vegetable standardization production technology, enhances household training and encourages the transformation from primary vegetable products to deep-processed vegetable products with high value-added.2. The examination of pepper production of sunlight greenhouse in Liuba township shows revealed that Liu Ba township started constructing sunlight greenhouse in2002and built52sunlight greenhouses in total. In2002, the sunlight greenhouse pepper production was406tons and the output value was3.036million yuan. In2012, the entire town had built a high standard water-saving agriculture demonstration park,6concentrated sunlight greenhouse cores and an intensive seedling center, which involving a third of the local farmers in sunlight greenhouse production. Pepper production of a standard sunlight greenhouse is2500kg, the total output is9080.9tons, the output value is3655.9yuan with the growth rate of32.65%, and the net income is20500yuan, accounting for thirty percent of the entire town per capita net income of farmers. The town has built a vegetables station in terms of standardization production, certified as AAA level green food, thereby improving the market competitiveness of the pepper products. In spite of these successes, the development of sunlight greenhouse in Liuba township is bottlenecked by a shortage of available funds, lack of alternative crops, monoculture pepper planting structure and inadequate capability for processing in leading enterprises.3. The development responses to the identified bottlenecks for sunlight greenhouse industry in Yongchang County were identified as:making plans scientifically and then implementing rational layout; strengthening information campaigns to improve farmers’ enthusiasm; Increased government management to foster market systems, strengthen technology research and development and promote diversified and new varieties; increasing use of professional cooperatives to improve organizational degree; development of the market and improvement of the marketing channel construction; building brand labels to improve core competitiveness. It is believed that these measures will promote sunlight greenhouse industry in Yongchang County to develop continuously, stably and healthily, and to make due contribution to the county economic development. |
