As one of the most rapidly and actively developing areas in China, the YangtzeRiver Delta is attracting many foreign direct investments, which provides the drivingpower for China’s rapid economic development and plays a good demonstration effecton other regions’ economic development in China. With strong comparativeadvantages in excellent geographical position and solid industrial foundation, theYangtze River Delta gains strong momentum through foreign direct investments forlocal economic development, but which has polluted the environment surroundingthis area day by day.Specifically speaking, what influence do the FDI inflows bringto this region’s carbon dioxide emission? Are the effects positive or negative? So thisstudy is of great importance to the development of low carbon economy, theadjustment of local foreign policy, and the smooth transition of economicdevelopment in this area. The article first illustrates research background and significance of the topic, andorganizes the relevant literature survey home and abroad, makes analysis of therelationship between FDI and carbon emission, which provides theoretical base to thefollowing empirical part. Then analysis the status of FDI and carbon emissions of theYangtze River Delta through qualitive analysis, and uses the panel data of YangtzeRiver Delta from1995to2010to do empirical research from the scale, structural andtechnological effects. Finally the conclusion is drawn that the scale and structuraleffects of FDI on carbon emission are negative and the technological effects arepositive. In the end, the corresponding policy recommendations are put forward basedon the results of theoretical empirical analysis and the actual situation of YangtzeRiver Delta.
