Study On The Development Status And Strategy Of Eco-tourism In Baoxing County

Eco-tourism is a newly developing industry which meets the demand of tourists without destroying the environment of the tourism places, and bring substantial profits to local economy as well. In recent years, the government of Baoxing County, Ya’an City, has invested large amounts of funds in developing a series of Eco-tourism products, which effectively promoted the development of the local zoology, economy, environment and society. However, problems like resources waste and lack of market competitiveness still exist. In our study, we made evaluation and SWOT analysis of the local ecological environment and tourism resources by using questionnaire and computer simulation, and the tourists market and environment capacity were also estimated. We finally made appropriate strategies and suggestions according to local tourism resources. The results were listed as follows:(1) Baoxing County is a valuable place with rich natural resources, including thick forests, various plants and fresh air. The local ecological environment, giant pandas, minorities, stone inscription and the Red Army made it so characteristic that the county has potential development value using the natural resources.(2) According to the Sichuan Eco-tourism Resources Evaluation System, the following travelling places in Baoxing County were ranked from the highest development value to the lowest:Jiajin Mountain zone> West Lake zone> Fengtongzhai zone> Lingguan Town> Muping Town(3) Although Baoxing County is abundant with natural species, the tourism industry developed quite slowly due to dangerous geographical position and rugged road, the lack of systematic and effective management also prevented it to be introduced to the tourists. Unrealistic opportunities and competitive market made the situation not optimistic.(4) In-home tourists take large amount of the consumers to Baoxing County, especially ones from Chengdu, Chongqing and Ya’an, foreign tourists only take a small part. The main tourists are51to60years old, with at least high school degree, monthly paid3500RMB, and they usually take one-or two-day driving tour. (5) The environment capacity of Eco-tourism in Baoxing County is18,280, by special calculation method, and the evaluated max environment capacity is13,720.(6) The amount of tourists differs significantly between the busy season and the off season, due to the local climate, culture and holidays. According the statistical materials, we calculated the environment capacity and tourists capacity in an effective and reliable way by setting the daily capacity of the busy season to100%, the general capacity to65%, and the off season to20%.In sum, our study made appropriate suggestions by systematically analyzing the local natural resources, including making scientific plans, hiring professional management, creating tourism brand, enhancing industry self-regulation and applying developing funds.
