As China drove its Economic system from a planned command economy to a market economy, the ability to react to the rapidly changing market demand has become more and more a critical for business. SG Printing Equipment Company is a domestic newspaper printing equipment manufacturer. Even with its glorious history in the Chinese printing industry, SG is also facing a great difficulty on the business growth. SG is a typical intermittent manufacturing company, high customized product; short lead time, high operation cost and non-stable manufacturing schedule are the challenges it has to confront. As the first link in the manufacturing chain, product engineering must deal with a lot of uncontrollable impacts. It all drives the urgent need for an efficient product development system.Based on this background and after explaining the lean product development concept, this article proposes to build an integrated lean product development information model and a shared two-way information model to link the ERP&PDM/CAPP systems, which will ensure the accuracy, timeliness and consistency of the operation data flow. Firstly, this article starts by explaining the current situation of intermittent manufacturing company and the problems that exists in this company and also the reason&purpose of writing this article. Secondly, this article introduces some mature technologies and methods which are well accepted on the product development management information system and lean manufacturing, and then presents the basic framework of this case. Thirdly, this article introduces the development history, characteristics, merits and faults of the lean product development concept, ERP system, PDM&CAPP system. As for the lean product development information requirement for SG Company, this article expounds the optimum proposal of product development management, then explains and analyzes every link of the product development process. Based on that, a common intermittent manufacturing company management model was established. At the end, by testing this model in the SG company product development system, it has been proved reliable and practical.
