For manufacturing enterprises, inventory management is a key index to measure the success of company management, also it is a decisive element to determine the continue developing of the company healthily. Especially under the environment of supply chain, the result of inventory control not only affects the whole cost of a single enterprise, but also determine the efficiency and competitiveness of the entire supply chain.J Company is the first class enterprise in EMS industry which enjoys an advanced technique and high reputation. The developing strategy of J Company is "Seek profit through lean production control based on operation management." Inventory takes up much capital, it is the key point of material management, and has a bearing on not only running cost and operation risk of the company but will have an influence on the service level to the customer, so it is the key point of the daily operation management to J company.The research of this thesis is based on the example of J Company. Firstly it introduces the related concept, compared the inventory control under different environment of historical and that of supply chain. Also give a summary introduction on the inventory management strategy of supply chain. Furthermore, this thesis find and spot defects and problems on inventory management of J Company, analyze the root cause, also give some ways and advices on how to overcome and make improvement. Taking the consideration of customer and demand, the improving ways include customer management, material demand imitation and evaluation, information integration of supply chain; in view of suppliers management, the improvements should taken as raise the cooperation level of information exchange, popularize the VMI under SA mode, enhance the control ability on vendors; also in view of internal control, the improvements include reforming organization structure of purchasing department, set parts control, strengthen the management on excess and obsolete.We sincerely hope the sharing for the experiences and the research conclusion of the root cause can help J company to make further improvements and progress on inventory control, also can advise and alert other enterprises in this field.
