India’s rapid economic growth has caused the wide attention of the world since2000,. As twodeveloping countries with the fastest growing economy in the world and adopt differentdevelopment models, China and India are inevitably become the hot spot in the contrastive studyof the world. By comparing China and India economic development, we can learn much fromIndia’s economic growth.In this paper, with the help of the regional economic growth theory and the theory of economicgrowth mode and some latest research results, to explore the Indian economy in the21st centurydevelopment characteristics and the comparison between the two countries economic developmentmodel, development characteristics, etc. This paper is divided into five parts: the first part putsforward the research background and significance, relevant research status at home and abroad.The second part expounds the basic theory of regional economic development, including thetheory of economic take-off, innovation and diffusion theory, dual economic structure theory,theory of regional production complex, gradient development theory, growth pole theory, pointaxis development theory, network theory, etc. The third part analysis the characteristic of India’seconomic development, discusses three structural characteristic of industrial development,economic growth and the role of foreign trade on economic growth. The fourth part carries on thecomparison to China and India economic development characteristics, the main services fromsoftware, hardware and software foundation, the future competitiveness and the comparativeanalysis of the problems facing their respective economic development. Finally, the fifth partdiscusses the enlightenment of India development model and the reference significance toChina.This paper found that the size of the economy, the structure, the development of foreign trade,infrastructure construction, population overall quality, the authority of the government, theefficiency of policy implementation, allocate the pull on the economy of economic structure,China ahead of India; In a democratic society, economic liberalization, the private enterprise ofcultivation, the efficiency of the utilization of foreign capital, legal system, the perfect degree ofthe system of financial securities, with European and American developed countries cultural fusion, the popularity of English, the development of software services, expand domestic demand,China still lags behind that of India. The advantages and disadvantages of each model ofdevelopment in the two countries is competitive in the different aspects respectively. China andIndia economic development gap is gradually narrowing, even India’s GDP growth will soon beover China; But India is hard to catch up for at least twenty years China, China will continue tolead in India. This point is very different from the view of many domestic and foreign scholars"India’s economy will overtake China in ten years’ views”.
