With the development of the ethnic village tourism, tourism destinations distinctly benefit both culture and economy. However, while the tourism destinations also suffer from contamination, damage and plagiarism and their construction styles are all similar. Under such circumstances, how to strike a balance among conservation of ethnic culture, preservation of local lifestyles and tourism needs? The article utilizes psychological perception theory to research the spatial form of ethnic tourism village, aiming to explore the mode to realize the sustainable development of ethnic tourism villages.Based on looking back into research results in related fields, the article starts from the concept, types and characters of perception and points out that the perception of ethnic tourism village spatial form includes intuitive perception, time and space perception and sense perception. Then ethnic tourism village spatial form factors are divided into material and immaterial factors. The material factors include natural environment, buildings and facilities, roads, node and landmarks. The immaterial factors include activities and folk customs. Based on the needs of individual survival and development, aesthetic value, functional value and cultural value are used to evaluate the spatial form of ethnic tourism village. Then eight corresponding assessment standards are put forward, including characteristic, richness, wholeness, comfort, identification, uniqueness, authenticity and belonging.Third phase of the research sets Dehang Miao village in western Hunan as sample and identifies the difference between residents and tourists’perception by the questionnaire conforming to the local conditions. The data show that tourists and residents have a high degree of perception towards the village spatial form and tourists’ perception is slightly higher. Both of them have the highest perception on the natural environment and the lowest on landmarks. The characteristic, comfort and belonging of the spatial form are recognized, while richness and uniqueness are not, and there are differences between tourists and residents’perception about wholeness and authenticity. After analyzing the cause, the article points out the problems of the village construction and makes recommendations.Last but not least, to realize the sustainable development in ethnic village with both tourism and cultural identity, the article tries to offer some principles and proposes to enhance the tourists and residents’perception towards ethnic tourism village spatial form, hoping to act as a reference and inspiration for further research.
