Organization structure plays pivotal role for commercial banks to achieve theiroperational strategies. Whether it is able to adapt to the increasingly complicatedeconomic and financial environment, and to provide effective support to thedevelopment of Credit business, exerts great influence on commercial banks’competitiveness and business sustainability.Branch Banking System, which hasbeen adopted by major commercial banks in China, has gradually become outdatedwith the fast-changing market environment and financial reform. Therefore, it’s ofgreat theoretical and practical significance to have an in-depth analysis on theexisting Branch Banking System, identify its weaknesses and major problems, andeventually secure a preferable roadmap for domestic commercial banks to reformorganization structures. This paper, by carrying out both extensive and intensive literature review, combines theories with practical cases. For instance, it analyses the status quo ofBank of China Jilin branch’s credit business in Changchun, and discusses thefeasibility of implementing Strategic Business Unit (SBU) there, by taking intoconsideration the organizational reform experience of commercial banks in Chinaand across the world. Finally, after conducting a program design for implementingSBU, the paper provides valuable suggestions for BOC Jilin Branch to furtherimprove its business.
