As one of the important sectors of national economy, retail industry connect to themanufacturers and the final consumers, which is connected to the production andconsumption li, and play an important role in economic growth. Because retail plays themajor role in the social and economic status, so the retail industry is generally regarded as oneof the regional strategic industries.Chongqing is one of the four municipalities, should be builtinto the economic center of Yangtze River, an important growth pole in the western region,international metropolis, should accelerate the development of the retail industry.Chongqing’s economic is growing fast, and retail development momentum in ten years.But generally speaking, the competitiveness level of Chongqing retail industry has largedifferences from domestic developed provinces and western developed countries. In this paper,based on the relevant competition theory, through setting up a model concluded the retailindustry competitiveness in Chongqing, and influencing factor of the retail industrycompetitiveness in Chongqing, makes recommendations for the development of retailindustry in Chongqing.This paper has seven parts. The first part is introduction, mainly introduced the selectedtopic background, research significance, research methods, and the literature review aboutretail industry competitiveness research. The second part introduces the industrialcompetitiveness theory, define the meaning of retail industry competitiveness and build retailcompetitiveness theoretical framework in this paper. The third part has carried on thethorough analysis from the retail trade competitive internal factors and external factors,establish Chongqing retail industry competitiveness evaluation index system from retail scale,efficiency, retail growth contribution to the force, retail, retail potential, external supportconditions, and use the factor analysis method to rank the national31provinces,municipalities and autonomous regions. The result shows that, the retail industrycomprehensive competitiveness of China’s eastern region is bigger than the western region,but the gap between the central region and the western region of the comprehensivecompetitiveness of the retail industry is not large. Chongqing, ranked18in the ranking, andthe comprehensive competitiveness is still a gap between Chongqing and eastern developedareas. The fourth chapter builds a multiple regression model by using retail industry output asthe explained variables, do empirical analysis of the influence factors of Chongqing retailcompetition. Analysis result shows that, there are three factors that affect the competitivenessof the retail industry in Chongqing: the number of Internet users at the end of a year, final consumption and Per Capita GDP. The number of Internet users at the end of a year isnegatively related to the retail industry value. Final consumption and Per Capita GDP arepositively related to the retail industry value. The fifth part puts forward strategiccountermeasures for Chongqing development of retail industry and related Suggestions. Thesixth part introduces the shortage of the paper and prospect.
