Evaluation And Influence Factor Analysis On The Competitiveness Of Manufacturing Industry In Liaoning Province

As the engine of national economy, manufacturing industry can enhance the comprehensive competitiveness of a country’s economic development. In the process of industrialization of a country, no matter how progressive technology is, the development of the manufacturing industry is the eternal theme. As the country’s industrial base, manufacturing industry not only has made outstanding contributions to the development of Liaoning province’s economy, but also plays an important role in the entire country’s economic development. Liaoning manufacturing industry has gained remarkable achievements since the implementation of revitalizing old industrial bases in Northeast China in2003. But it should not be denied that the overall development of the manufacturing industry in Liaoning province still falls behind that of the similar developed cities. The level of industrial competitiveness remains to be improved. As the leading industry of the Liaoning economic development, manufacturing industry should seize the opportunities to build a modern Liaoning manufacturing base. In this sense, exploring the promotion of the overall industrial competitiveness of manufacturing in Liaoning has become the urgent matter.Researching industrial development from the perspective of competitiveness has become a hot topic of the current economic field. But the contents are more concentrated on the whole competitiveness of a country, lacking the evaluation of special industry. And the existed literature about Liaoning manufacturing industry more focuses on the equipment manufacturing industry, lacking comprehensive analysis of the whole manufacturing industry. From the point of research methods, provincial manufacturing research used more qualitative analysis, and the quantitative analysis research limited in statistical analysis, such as factor analysis and principal component analysis, rarely using measurement model to discuss the development of the manufacturing industry. Therefore, using the economic theory of industrial competitiveness and relying on the dynamic econometric model to evaluate the level of competitiveness of the Liaoning manufacturing industry has the important theoretical significance and practical application value.Closely linked to the theme of the times to "re-industrialization", this paper is concerned with the domestic and international competitiveness of manufacturing industry in Liaoning, aiming to put forward some suggestions about how to enhance the manufacturing competitiveness. The analysis framework was constructed with the foundation of the industrial competitiveness theory, and used the multivariate statistical analysis and econometric model. The whole paper consists of six chapters. Its organization is as follows:Chapter one, introduction. First, the background and objective of the paper are analyzed. Then it pointed out the deficiency of the current research through reviewing the foreign and domestic literature, and leaded to the research framework and methods of the paper.Chapter two, the current situation of the development of manufacturing industry in Liaoning province. The chapter analysised the industrial layout of the manufacturing industry on the basis of the course of development.Then, the chapter compared the level of development of the manufacturing industry in Liaoning Province with other adjacent provinces.Chapter three, the evaluation about manufacturing industrial competitiveness in Liaoning. The chapter first defined the connotation of Liaoning manufacturing industrial competitiveness, then evaluated the manufacturing industry features on the basis of factor analysis. Finally, according to import and export data of Liaoning and the world’s manufacturing, the chapter made an objective evaluation from comparative advantage, competitive advantage and potential advantages of the manufacturing industry in Liaoning. This chapter study showed that the sub-sectors of Liaoning manufacturing have unbalanced development:Petroleum processing and coking processing industry is the most dynamic pillar industries; and the competitiveness of ferrous metal smelting and rolling processing industry, textile, communicating equipment and office machinery products industry is relatively strong.Chapter four, the impacting factor analysis about manufacturing industrial competitiveness in Liaoning. With the foundation of "Diamond Model" of Michael Porter, this chapter investigated the factors of the competitiveness of manufacturing industry in Liaoning by using measurement models. Involving two specific areas: firstly, focusing on the input of production and business strategy, the chapter analyzed the internal impacting factors on the basis of panel data model; secondly, focusing on the external demand conditions and related and supporting industries, the chapter analyzed the impacting factors of competitiveness of manufacturing industry on the basis of impulse response.Chapter five, suggestions of the development of the manufacturing industry in Liaoning.This chapter pointed out suggestions to enhance the manufacturing competitiveness from the perspectives of business, government and related support industries.Chapter six, conclusions and prospects. This chapter summaried conclusions. The deficiencies and prospects of the research were also given.The independent work and innovations of this paper are listed as follow. First, concerned about the development of Liaoning manufacturing from the international comparative perspective, the paper analyzed the comparative advantage, competitive advantage and potential advantages based on the import and export data; second, by using panel data model and vector auto regression model, the paper investigated the influencing factors of the competitiveness of manufacturing industry in Liaoning, and proposed more explanatory countermeasures based on the strategic context for revitalizing the northeast old industrial and the advantage of Liaoning manufacturing industry.
