A Measurement Of Integration In Rural Urban Labor Market

In China the division of rural-urban labor market always exist, divided rural-urban labor market distortions the allocation of resources in the labor market, affected the efficiency improvement and social equity, discouraged to economic and social development. With the continuing reform of the system, rural labor can migrate to urban, rural labor force can enter to the urban labor market, the number of migrant workers growing year by year, urban and labor markets showing a trend of continuous integration.So for, the reform of rural-urban integration of labor market in China has been promoted for more than30years. A large amount of studies have been conducted to examine the impediment of rural labor migration and employ barrier to rural migrant work due to all kinds of discrimination from perspectives such as employment choice opportunity, wage return etc. However, there is still lack of information on the description of the real development of the rural-urban integration of labor market in China.In this paper, the basic theory is "single wage rate". Reference to price index of product market use "single price" as the theory. Based on the same level of human capital, towns and rural migrant labor force wage differentials angle in the urban labor market, we construct the index of urban-rural labor market integration. Urban household survey from2002to2012, rural household survey from2003to2012and monitor migrant workers survey data from2009to2012based on Zhejiang province. Using of constructed urban-rural labor market integration index for empirical analysis to trends and degree of the urban-rural labor market integration.Empirical results show that:the integration of urban-rural labor market showing a rising trend on the whole for Zhejiang province, but have a greater fluctuation in recent years. Further analyzed according to the different levels of education, we can get:the degree of rural-urban integration of labor market is gradually improving to the lower level of education of the labor force, while the degree of rural-urban integration of labor market showing a increase trend at the first and then a downward trend to the higher level of education of the labor force. Finally, through towns and rural migrant labor force relative wages time series analysis in the urban labor market, we can get:there have a downward trend for relative wages time series of urban-rural labor force for Zhejiang province. According to the "single wage rate", the degree of rural-urban integration of labor market is improving. This has the same result measured by the index of urban-rural labor market integration based on the price index, further evidence the degree of rural-urban integration of labor market is gradually improving.
