Magnetic materials as a function of the electronics industry base material, iswidely used in computers, communications, automotive, electronics, industrialautomation, aerospace, defense and other high-tech fields, it is a strategic newindustry which the nation focuses on encouraging. Zhejiang is a province of magneticmaterials industry, magnetic material products accounted for70%of the wholecountry. And Dongyang is the most intensive area of magnetic materials enterprises inZhejiang province. However, compared with the international advanced regions,magnetic materials industry in Dongyang, even the overall province is appear inlow-end locking tendency and the industry’s core competitiveness is not strong. Whatis worse, external demand environment is tightly urgent, magnetic material industrialneed to upgrade peremptorily. Based on the theories of industrial clusters evolutionand cluster upgrading and other related theories, the study uses patent statisticsmethod and explores innovation foundation of magnetic materials industrial cluster inDongyang, and strives to explore path of industrial cluster upgrading.21st century is the era of knowledge economy, based on technological innovation.Patents as one of the main form of research achievements, contains a lot of technicalinformation, market information and legal information, is a social focus. Through acomprehensive analysis of patent literature, it can reveal industrial or corporate R&Dstrength, R&D direction, R&D priorities and other important information to helpimprove their ability of innovating, and thus enhance overall competitiveness. Bycomparing patent differences of magnetic materials industrial cluster in DongyangZhejiang with other regional, and analyzing of industrial clusters innovation network,it can provide a more in-depth understanding of Dongyang Zhejiang magneticmaterials industrial cluster innovation foundation for exploring the cluster upgradepath provides an important reference.This study firstly reviews related literatures, learning that technologicalinnovation, cluster innovation network are necessary to industrial clusters upgrading. And based on describing the theories of industrial cluster evolution and industrialclusters upgrading, it puts forward the analysis model. Secondly, this study appliesboth market concentration and Logistic growth curve method, using SPSS and CurveExpert statistical software to determine evolution stage of magnetic materialsindustrial cluster in Dongyang. Again, this study based on patent data of magneticmaterials from China Intellectual Property network, applies patent statistics method inorganizing the statistical results of magnetic patent literature into a variety of charts,comparing the differences of patent applications, patent applications subject type,patent technology and so on of magnetic materials industrial clusters in DongyangZhejiang with other areas. Meanwhile, it combines expert interviews method, in-depthanalyzing the innovation network of magnetic materials industrial cluster inDongyang Zhejiang. Finally, after a clear learning of evolutionary stage of industrialclusters, and analyzing of technological innovation and innovation networks ofmagnetic materials industrial clusters in Dongyang, this study put forwards theupgrading path of magnetic materials industrial cluster in Dongyang whose maincontent isThis study does a research on upgrading of magnetic materials industrial clusterin Dongyang from the angle of patent, data sources is objected and analytical tools isscientific, and analytical content is more practical, is a useful exploration of industrialcluster upgrading. it can lay the groundwork for the later scholars in this research andprovide a reference to the relevant government departments for scientificdecision-making reference.
