The Tang Dynasty is a dynasty that its economy is more prosperous of the ancient commodity economy development of our country, but behind the prosperity of commodity economy, some intensify contradictions become acute in the economic development, the "money shortage" is glaring one of these contradictions. The Tang Dynasty is an important historical period in the history of China, the prosperous of economy and culture reached the peak of the ancient society. And the questions of money shortage, engaged in the economic life of the time. Therefore, the study of money shortage in Tang Dynasty, to our understanding of economic development in Tang Dynasty has very important significance. There are a lot of researchers who study on money shortage problems in the Tang Dynasty, the researchers were from during the period of the republic of China, and this problem has been into the field of vision of scholars. After decades of research, at present the academic study of money shortage has been more thorough, when did the money shortage happen, how to define it, what are the reasons of the money shortage, how it went, and what measures are taken by the government; the nexus of the prices and money shortage, the Two of the tax law and the money shortage, the commodity economy and the money shortage; there are some published articles about these problems. However, in the process of learning, I found something about money shortage, there are still some that predecessors do not attention to, or have mistakes to know the money shortage. Therefore, this article will expound through three aspects, to talk about something that I am interested in, to promote the study of money shortage in Tang Dynasty. My graduation thesis is divided three chapters. The first chapter of this article, mainly discuss and testify the definition of money shortage and when did it happen in the Tang Dynasty. According to the "money shortage" words were proposed and understanding of "money shortage" in the Sung Dynasty, coupled with the interpretation of "money shortage" in "Chinese coins dictionary", make a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the phenomenon of "money shortage" in Tang Dynasty, I will reach the definition and category of the words about "money shortage" in the Tang Dynasty.I want to clear and definite the time that money shortages first arise in Tang Dynasty, though the basic study of coin policy of Tang Dynasty. This economic phenomenon of money shortage began in the Zhenyuan period, until the beginning of the Emperor Muzong of Tang, about forty years in Tang Dynasty. In this paper, the second chapter is mainly to discuss the relationship between copper and the money shortage. From the first chapter shows,"money shortage" is the phenomenon of economic chaos caused by the lake of coins (the main coins are copper coins during that period) in commodity circulation. What’s the reasons for the lake of copper coins in the commodity economy? From the following five aspects, the wide application of copper from life, the mining of copper in the Tang Dynasty, copper-coins casting in the Tang Dynasty, the phenomenon of casting copper-coins without permission in the mid and late Tang Dynasty, the storage of copper-coins in Tang Dynasty, to discusses the cause of the shortage of copper-coin in the Tang Dynasty, the relationship between the copper use value and value fluctuation and the shortage of money, and the nexus between monetary function and the shortage of money. And the third chapter mainly analyzes the relations between tax law and the shortage of money. First of all, The first section mainly discusses the use of copper-coins in Tang Dynasty, especially after the An-Shi Rebellion, the court has a large amount of money demand. In the second section, first, discuss about putting the copper-coins as a standard of the Two of the tax law. Although in practice, the taxation contains lots of content, not all copper-coins, but it reflects the rise of copper-coins in the social life in Tang Dynasty. It becomes a blasting fuse to the money shortage in the Tang Dynasty, in a few years later, it lead to break out of the money shortage. Second, in terms of the relationship between the Two of the tax law and the shortage of money, it’s the money shortage that lead the peasants have to pay more grain and cloth, suffer a greater degree of exploitation when they pay taxes during the Two of the tax law of tang dynasty. In the third section, it mainly discuss the monetary policy which copper-coins and silks can be parallel in Tang Dynasty. But this policy did not stop the happening of the money shortage, it resulted in the confusion of monetary policy in the Tang Dynasty, and it gives rise to aggravate the spread of money shortage in a certain extent.
