Research On The Commodity Structure Problem Of Sino-Germany Bilateral Trade

Over the past40years, with the joint efforts of Chinese and Germany both sides, Sino-German economic and trade relations have made great progress both in breadth and depth. Along with the deepening of bilateral trade, the commodity structure of trade is also gradually changing. For a long term the trade between China and Germany was highly complementary, but with the rapid development of China’s economy and the upgrading of the industrial structure, Chinese high value-added and high technology products began to be a challenge to the export trade structure to Germany, and the competitive of bilateral trade is growing, and the intra-industry trade is continuously expanding. Bilateral commodity structure as an important index to reflect the Sino-German bilateral economic and trade relations, can reflect the development of the bilateral trade by specific visual. Research on the commodity structure of Sino-German bilateral trade has an important practical significance to further promote the development of the bilateral trade.The author selected the commodity structure of Sino-German bilateral trade as the object of study for special analysis, systematically discussed its dynamic development, characteristics and optimization countermeasures. Firstly, divide the stages of the bilateral trade, and state in detail according to the different characteristics of each stage of the commodity structure. Then do the analysis of the commodity structure at the present stage, which of all commodities by SITC classification, and which of some key commodities by HS codes classification. Then through an evaluation system formed by a variety of index make an empirical analysis of the Sino-German bilateral trade commodity structure from1992to2012. Finally, from three aspects of improving competitiveness of goods, developing intra-industry trade, strengthening economic and trade exchanges, pertinently put forward the countermeasures to optimize the commodity structure.Research on the bilateral commodity structure of China and Germany showed that: Sino-German bilateral trade commodity structure is in the continuous optimization process, and at the present stage of which the complementary is obvious but gradually weakened, the competition is enhanced and gradually transferring to the capital and technology intensive goods, the intra industry trade shows the level of development mainly to the industrial manufactured goods. And as the view of China, to futher optimize the commodity structure of Sino-German bilateral trade, one is from two aspects of commodity complementary and competitive ascend together to improve Chinese commodity competition, two is through diversified development of goods and bilateral investment development to promote the development of intra industry trade between China and Germany, three is to strengthen the economic and trade exchanges between China and Germany from two aspects of the government and the enterprise.
