A qualitative and quantitative method for the simultaneous and rapid determination of metronidazole and10kinds of tetracycline antibiotics in cosmetics by high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC) was established. High performance liquid chromatograph with diode array detector was uitilised to simultaneously detect11substances i.e., minocycline, metronidazole, oxytetracycline, tetracycline, demeclocycline, Aureomycin, metacycline, doxycycline, epianhydrotetracycline hydrochloride, anhydrotetracycline, and chloroamphenicol. Compared with the Chinese national standard for simultaneous determination of9kinds of tetracycline antibiotics, this method could reduce work time and enhance work efficiency. It is concluded that this method with simple pretreatment of sample, rapid analysis, and good separating effect can be used to simultaneously determine metronidazole and10tetracyclines in cosmetics.A method for determination of musk xylene in cosmetics by gas chromatography-mass spectrography was established. In this method, the linear range was at0.1to5mg/L, the limit of detection was0.01mg/L, and the recovery was at the range of80%to110%.A method based on hygienic standard for cosmetics was created to test boric acid and borate in cosmetics by ultraviolet spectrophotometry. The samples possessed different characteristics and sorting specialities, therefore, the determination of boric acid and borate in cosmetics used various pretreatment methods to detect different sorts of cosmetic samples. It had wide linear range, good precision and high recovery.
