Because of the product shape, material anisotropy and other factors, the pattern oftwo-piece cans distorted after stamping, it printed on sheet metal before forming. Thetraditional solutions were using smaller anisotropic materials to make the plastic flowuniform during the forming process; designing a simple shape, commonly cylinder;putting pattern in smaller deformation area to reduce distortion. But as people’s increasingrequirements on packaging effect, the traditional simple packaging cannot meet theconsumer demands. In addition, to achieve a more satisfactory decoration, the traditionaldesign method not only rely on the designers’ reduplicative deliberation and modificationin the early design stage, but also need the practical experiment and adjustment. So,developing a pre-distorted module to shorten design period and reduce production cost isvery necessary.Combined with the material anisotropic characteristics, this paper presented apre-distorted algorithm based on finite element method and area coordinate of triangle.Assuming the sheet metal plastic deformation was continuous, the area coordinates of onepoint on sheet metal kept constant during the forming process. The pattern mappedreversely form product onto sheet consequently.Taking advantage of the pre-distorted algorithm, this paper developed a pre-distortedmodule on the FASTAMP-POST platform, it can forecast material flow and providereference lines to adjust pattern. According to the pattern’s relative position in referencelines, designers can finish designing the print pattern quickly in CorelDRAW software. Byusing this module, once adjustment would achieve the pattern effect matching with theseveral times adjustment by using traditional method. Besides, in order to improve thedesign precision, the deformation prediction of bounding box was realized. This module issuitable for any shapes of two-piece cans. Finally, by means of formability analysis and pre-distorted treatment of circular candycan, the practicality of this module was confirmed, it can quickly and effectively shortenthe pattern design time.
