The looping-forming motion equipment which is the important component of the multi-axial knitting machine is studied, through which, the ability and level of independent development on multi-axial knitting machine is improved and the design method that has been applied to the development of the actual product of the looping-forming motion from the theoretical aspect is brought up.The structural composition of multi-axial knitting machine and the working principle of composition parts is analyzed, the working principle of loop-forming system and stripping comb transverse system is emphatically analyzed. The loop-forming process is researched, which can be divided into eight key points and the position of every loop-forming element. According to the technical function of every element, the motion requirement of every loop-forming element is concluded. Namely, the motion of the compound bar is compounded of vertical motion and horizontal motion, the former and the later require the reciprocal linear movement with a dwell. The motion of the stripping comb is compounded of lateral motion and longitudinal motion. Namely, the former requires intermittent reciprocal linear movement and the later requires reciprocating swing with a dwell. As for every loop-forming element, the mechanism structure type which realizes motion requirement is chosen. The vertical motion mechanism of groove pin is planar ten-bar linkage. The vertical motion mechanism of closed bar is planar twelve-bar linkage and the horizontal motion of it is planar eight-bar linkage. The swing mechanism of stripping comb is eight-bar linkage and lateral motion of it is follower cam mechanism. Further dimensional synthesis of every loop-forming component is provided and according to the requirements of stroke size, down time etc. of loop-forming element, graphic and analytical methods are adopted to conclude the specific dimension of each element.According to the requirements that the layers of RSM3/3 multi-axial knitting machine is at most eight layers of yarn, the specific dimension of each loop-forming element is concluded and specific mechanism structure is designed. By 3D simulation analysis, the key parameters about the stroke and the idle time stroke of the vertical motion of groove pin and closed bar, the horizontal motion of compound bar and the down time as well as compounded path of motion of groove pin tip, etc. are concluded, which comparing with the required parameters and the inaccuracy of the key parameters is less than 5%. Multi-axial fiber glass composite materials waved by machine suggest that the loop-forming motion equipment designed lives up to the expectations and the whole design is workable.
