Dump is also called waste-rock yard. It is a specified place in advance to focus stacking row of abandoned objects those generated when mining. With the rapid development of our country mining career, mining technology has been greatly improved. Large-scale open pit mine makes the volume of waste dump gradually increasing, so that the mine dump area is also growing. In order to improve the economic efficiency of mine and maximumly reduce the area of the mine dump, many mining companies maximize the use of dump the existing area to increasing the stack height. Dump is a artificial accumulation and it also is a storage dam to keeping rainfall. rainfall infiltration will change the seepage field in the slope of dump. That cause water load increasing which present in the dispersion slope. This is an important cause of slope of dump instability in the rainy season. Before the slope of dump losing its stability, generally there are a lot vertical cracks on the top of the slope. These vertical cracks will reduce slope stability, ultimately lead to the destruction of slope. Once the dump instability Will affect the normal production of open pit mining and dump and security of personnel and equipment. People increasingly focused on the issues of safety and environmental of mine dump. How to improve the slope of dump’s instability has become the important problems to be solved. The thesis aims to study the stability of open pit mining dump under the influence of rainfall and cracks and fully using the living example of open pit mining dump, to get the influence rules of rain and crest vertical cracks impacting on slope stability, to achieve a win-win of security and economic. In this context, the main works are:(1) The thesis introduced the basic principles of finite element strength reduction. The thesis also described the principle of using this method to model, the advantages of analysis of the slope and the judgment basis for the overall instability of the slope.(2) Using the software of Midas/GTS which is a finite element software, Numerical analysis of the slope in combination with the living example of open pit mining dump based on the finite element strength reduction, in order to get the equivalent cloud picture of displacement, shear strain and so on that the slope of dump under the Under the effect of gravity and rainfall. Using the judgment basis for the overall instability of the slope, the thesis makes sure that where is the position of most dangerous sliding surface, what shape is the most dangerous sliding surface and the safety factor when the slope overall instability.(3) Basing on the sweden slice method and simplified bishop method which those are belong to limit equilibrium method, the thesis analyzed the stability of the slope using software STAB which is a slope stability analysis software, in order to get that where is the position of most dangerous sliding surface, what shape is the most dangerous sliding surface and the minimum safety factor when the slope Crest exists vertical tension crack.(4) Through comparing the finite element strength reduction method with the sweden slice method and simplified bishop method, the thesis verified the superiority and the stringency of the finite element method in slope stability analysis.
