Asphalt is an essential raw material in national infrastructure, especially in road construction, airport construction, building waterproof and municipal areas. But with the rapid development of economic construction in our country, related areas of asphalt application are also developing rapidly, while the asphalt supply is tight. The production of asphalt production has been increasing every year in our country, but it can’t meet the need of the market compared with the consumption of asphalt. The annual output of karamay petroleum asphalt has exceeded one million tons in 2007, and the annual production capacity is 2.5million tons at present. But the modification of karamay petroleum asphalt has always been hard, which directly limits its application, especially its poor compatibility with asphalt modifier. So our aim of study is to modify karamay petroleum asphalt effectively and to make it applicable in construction. The performance of the modified can achieve or be above the national standard, so we will reduce the waste of resources, or even turn scrap into wealth,and make contributions to national economic construction. Great economic and social benefits will be got if we can find a right solution.The main work of the research:1. The synthesis and characterization of hydroxyl-terminated hyperbranched polymerAB2 monomer was prepared from phthalic anhydride, diisopropanolamine, and use trimethylolpropane as the core molecular. Then the second, third, fourth hydroxyl-terminated hyperbranched polymer were synthesized through controlling the molar ratio between core molecular and AB2 monomer. The chief factor is that hydroxyl-terminated hyperbranched polymer with large steric structure can be got by using diisopropanolamine in the process of synthesis. So it will play a better role to fix asphalt molecules in the process of asphalt modification. The strcture of Hydroxyl-terminated hyperbranched polymers were characterized by the test methods such as infrared spectrum, hydroxyl value determination,element analysis. After analyzing the synthetic product structures are more complete and are the ideal synthetic products.2. The synthesis and characterization of double bond modified hyperbranched polymer(M- HP)The hydroxyl-terminated hyperbranched polymers modified into double bond sealing by methyl methacrylate in the process of synthesis. It is mainly because the modification process is at 180℃, so the double bonds can be chemical crosslinked with related groups of asphalt.The strcture of M-HP was characterized by the test methods such as infrared spectrum,hydroxyl value determination, element analysis, thermo-gravimetric. The results showed that modification effect is good, compared with hydroxyl-terminated hyperbranched polymers.3. The research of Karamay 90# asphalt modificationIn the article, M-HP modified Karamay 90# asphalt is discussed. The comparison was made between M-HP modified Karamay 90# asphalt and SBS modified Karamay 90# asphalt separately, and between the synergy effect of the asphalt modification by M-HP and SBS. The performances were characterized by the test methods such as softening point, penetration,ductility and segregation. The results showed that the Karamay 90# asphalt modification by M-HP is effective. Moreover, the result is better when the modifiers are SBS and M-HP, and the best quality ratio is 2(SBS):1(M-HP).4. The waterproof coiled material made by modified Karamay 90# asphalt with M-HPIn this section, the semi-finished products of modified asphalt waterproof coiled material was researched. And the semi-finished products of modified asphalt waterproof coiled material were created, and met the national standard through various performance tests. And then the formula of the modified asphalt waterproofing materials were created, and the performances reached the national standard.
