Paper-process reconstituted tobacco was an important part of cigarette material, the physical properties of cigarette could be improved and the tar content could be reduced by adding moderate reconstituted tobacco, and then tobacco materials could be saved. With the increase of the reconstituted tobacco application scope and percentage in Chinese style cigarette, the higher requirements of the quality of renconsituted tobacco was made by cigarette enterprises. Three different grades about high, medium and low renconsituted tobacco samples were selected, and the works about analyzing the quality characteristics of renconsituted tobacco were as follows:1. The contents of total sugar, reducing sugar, nicotine, potassium and chloride in reconstituted tobacco were determined by CFA, and the results were used statistical analysis for clustering analysis. The results indicated that:(1) The contents of total sugar, reducing sugar, nicotine, potassium and chloride in reconstituted tobacco were7.26%~11.69%,5.83%~8.97%,0.85%~1.18%,0.43%~1.18%,1.94%~2.22%.(2) The purpose of distinguish between different class reconstituted tobacco could be achieved by clustering analysis.2. The contents of fluorine, chlorine, bromine, nitrite, nitrate, phosphate, and sulfate in reconstituted tobacco were determined by ion chromatography. The results indicated that:1) The content of bromine in reconstituted tobacco was zero;2) The contents of nitrate in Low-grade tobacco reconstituted tobacco were significantly higher than those in high-grade sanmples, which can be concluded that Low-grade samples’contents of nitro compounds in tobacco smoke were higher than the high-grade and medium-grade samples’3. The determination of sodium, ammonia, potassium, magnesium and calcium in reconstituted tobacco was achieved by Ion Chromatography. The results indicated that:(1) The sodium content of the meassurement error could be reduced by the PTFE container,(2) The contents of ammonia were great different in reconstituted tobacco, and the contents of potassium and calcium were high.4. An ultrasonic wave extraction combined with ion chromatography(IC) method for determination of five organic acids, including lactate, acetate, malate, oxalate, and citrate, in reconstituted tobacco was developed. Five organic acids in reconstituted tobacco samples were determined, and the data were processed with cluster analysis. The results showed that:1) The contents of malic acid were highest than other acids;2) The contents of acetate in high-grade in reconstituted tobacco were slightly lower than medium and low-grade samples, while the contents of oxalate and citrate were higher than medium and low-grade samples;3) The cluster analysis could be used in the comparison and classification of different levels of reconstituted tobacco.5. The determination of calcium carbonate in reconstituted tobacco was achieved. The results indicated that:1) The contents of dissociative Ca+in reconstituted tobacco were about30%in total Ca+, and the contents of plus CaCO3(dry weight) were61-89mg/g;2) The contents of plus CaCO3in high-grade in reconstituted tobacco were slightly higher than medium and low-grade samples.6. A method for determination of soluble in hot water in reconstituted tobacco was established, and the contents of soluble in hot water about nineteen samples were determined by this method. The results indicated that:the contents of soluble in hot water about nineteen samples were38.68%~42.71%, and the spreading rate could be indirectly reflected.7. To learn differences and features of mainstream smoke between high, medium and low grades renconsituted tobacco samples, their conventional smoke and seven main toxic chemicals were analyzed, and their risks of mainstream smoke were also evaluated. The results indicated that:1) Four kinds of reconstituted tobacco were all low in smoking puffs, tar, nicotine, moisture, HCN, B[a]P, phenol and crotonic aldehyde. And the phenol yield of reconstituted tobacco in mainstream smoke was less than one-tenth of tobacco’s;2) The contents of total partical material, tar, NH3and CO in high-grade reconstituted tobacco’s mainstream smoke were shorted, and this could be used as to distinguish the different grade paper-process reconstituted tobacco.8. The pyrolysis behavior of four kinds of reconstituted tobacco was investigated using an on-line pyrolysis gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (PY/GC-MS). The results indicated that with the elevation of the pyrolysis temperature, complex pyrolysis products were formed. Acids were identified at low temperature. In the pyrolysis products of the four reconstituted tobacco, the most relative content were all olefins, and heterocyclic were much more different at900℃.
