In order to solve the disadvantages were brought by discharging low concentration tailings, the tailings must be thicken to increase the discharging concentration.The key of tailings thickening is sedimentation separation equipment.But, the existing equipment have two fatal disadvantages:small capacity per unit area and low sedimentation efficiency.However,the inclined plate thickener developed by the principle of shallow layer sediment can significantly increase the capacity per unit area of a equipment.This paper is mainly aimed at studying the application of the vibration inclined plate box settlement thickener.Research content of this paper is mainly composed of five parts. The first part is the literature review. The present situation of discharging tailings in metal mine and supply water in plant are summarized,it reveals the necessary of the tailings thickening.Meanwhile,the existing sedimentation separation equipments are summarized briefly.The second part of the paper is the basic principle of shallow layer sediment. The principle of shallow layer sediment is explained.By studying the impact of the form of streams on sedimentation,campaign track of particle,settlement separation efficiency and mineral particles force analysis in the shallow layer,MATLAB Toolbox is used for analyzing the impact of the distance between the plates, the length of plate and the angle of plate on the settlement separation efficiency of lamella settler which the optimum values of inclined plate can be found.The third part of the paper is the research and development of the vibration inclined plate box settlement thickener.Based on analysis of the problems existing in the traditional lamella settler,the vibration inclined plate box settlement thickener is invented by Kunming university of Science and Technology.At the same time,we introduces the structure and main feature of the equipment.In the fourth part of the paper,A ZXN-32vibration inclined plate box settlement thickener was applied to a semi-industrial experiment study of concentration of iron middlings and iron tailings which sampling from Dong’anshan Sintering Plant.According to mineral composition analysis,particle-size analysis and settlement test,we carried out a series of experiment research,including,the relationship between feeding capacity and turbidity of overflow;the relationship between underflow density,feeding capacity and turbidity of overflow;experiment on the equipment’s stability,etc.The experiment results shows that the vibration inclined plate box settlement thickener were running stability;the underflow and the overflow can freely dischargejthe underflow density and the overflow turbidity can control and adjust which can meet the requirement of practice production.The capacity of the equipment were in agreement with the theoretical calculation result.Comparing with the ordinary thickener used in the plant,capacity per unit area of the test equipment is2.6-3.0times as much as ordinary thickener at the same conditions of the underflow density and the overflow turbidity.What’s more,the test equipment used less energy in capacity per unit area and more energy conservation.At the end of the paper,by analyzing the problems existing in using common rake thickener where come from Gongchangling Concentration and Plant of Qidashan Iron Mine,an inclined plate box Sedimentation separation technology was proposed which utilized for the common rake thickener’s transformation.According to the results of semi-industrial experiment,the effective sedimentation of area common rake thickener could be greatly increased and the pressure of production could be eased after the transformation which can be expected.
