Growing shortage of wood resources in recent years and poor mechanical properties of existing wood conflict with demands of structural engineered products made of wooden materials. Bamboo is widely used according to its excellent characteristics, but it possesses processing difficulties due to its properties of small diameter, thin wall, hollow and knot. Bamboo-wood composites make wood and bamboo more efficient. Bamboo-wood composites largely applied in container flooring, but our national standards cover its performance testing without design and manufacturing.This research focused on three aspects. Firstly, Grade A1, A2 and A3 were graded according to the air-dried density of bamboo strips. These graded strips, namelykdimension bamboo strips! could be used to produce structural materials for uniform structure and stable performance. Secondly, bamboo curtain is discontinuous in transverse direction, which reduces the stability of products. Bamboo-wood composite lamina was prepared, which compounded the bamboo curtain and wood orthometricly as one lamina. This research investigated mechanical properties of bamboo-wood composite lamina made of bamboo curtain of different grades. Bamboo-wood composite lamina of Grade A, Grade A1, Grade A2, Grade A3 was produced and their mechanical properties were lately tested. Lastly, four grades of bamboo-wood composite lamina were used as surface layer to design in accordance with PS-1and PDS, and produce bamboo-wood composite container flooring in same condition. Mechanical properties of the four different container floorings were assessed to analyse the effect of different surface layer to the container flooring.The research had three innovative pionts: Firstly, Grade A bamboo strips were graded according to the air-dried density, then we got structural materials for uniform structure and stable performance. Secondly, rolling curtain were accepted to reduce destruction of braided wire. Lastly, a new component unit of container floor, bamboo-wood composite lamina was manufactured.The research results were as follows:(1) Density of dimension bamboo strips had something to do with their weight. The bamboo strips were graded to three levels according to different weights, that were A1, A2, A3,and their bending properties were studied. The results showed that higher grade bamboo strips performed better in bending test.(2) Bamboo-wood composite lamina of Grade A, Grade A1, Grade A2 and Grade A3 exhibited differencesin 24 hour thickness swelling rate,and the figure were 3.88%, 3.88%, 4.22% and 4.59% respectively. Their respective bonding strength were 8.24 MPa, 7.41 MPa, 8.68 MPa and 6.38 MPa. Higher grade possess better bending performance, but poor impact performance. The density, bending strength, bonding strength and fracture energy had significant difference in four grades.(3) The density, 24 h thickness swelling rate, bonding strength, bending strength and impact resistance of container floors made of four grades of bamboo-wood composite lamina correlated variously to its grade. The 24 h thickness swelling rate and impact resistance correlated negatively to its grade, while density, bonding strength and bending strength have positive correlation to its grade.
