The active lime is the necessary slagging flux of steelmaking process, especially, when very short time BOF is used in all the metallurgical enterprise. Without quality lime, it’s difficult to achieve the smelting indicators. That’s the reason that the active lime has been treated as one of the three steps in converter smelting. Active lime is with bulk density, porosity and large surface area, high chemical purity, so that it is with high activity. Practice has proved that the using of active lime blowing in steelmaking in time can be shortened to improve the yield of steel, lime consumption reduction, to improve the desulfurization, dephosphorization effect, to improve the quality of steel plays an irreplaceable role, that’s why the active lime gains universally endorsed. The productions of active lime by two ways: shaft kiln and rotary kiln. The advantages of shaft kiln are: less investment projects, small footprint, low production costs; its disadvantages are: low yields, raw burn rate, unstable quality, require a relatively large particle size, only large particles of calcined limestone. Compared with the shaft kiln, rotary kiln is with high yield, low birth burning, stable product quality, high activity. Small particles can be used to make better use of limestone tailings. Rotary kiln also has its drawbacks: the investment is relatively high and need a large area. Currently, most of the domestic production of active lime kiln is like this, which has vertical preheater, vertical cooler. But its daily output is lower than 600 tons per day. In this paper, as an example, introduced a complete production plant design, in order to build a rotary kiln production line for 1000 tons per day, from raw materials to finished product, including the limestone by feeding and conveying system, preheater feeding systems, lime burning system, kiln exhaust gas treatment system, lime finished screening, storage, transportation systems, coal storage delivery systems, gas mixing with coal combustion system, other relevant professional engineering support systems.
