Hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene(HCCP) has excellent flame retardancy, but its drawbacks such as poor water resistence, higher halogen content and easy to hydrolyze has limited its application on linen fabric. Meanwhile, chlorine atom is active, so HCCP can be used to prepare the multifunctional ramification. Chitosan has good performances, such as renewable property, non-toxicity, good biocompatibility. Besides, its structure is similar to cellulose, and it can also be used as carbon source and foaming agent. In this paper, HCCP was modified by chemical method with degraded chitosan(JCH). Designed to enhance the flame retardancy at the same time reduce the halogen content and improve washability.First, HCCP was synthesized using phosphorus pentachloride and ammonium chloride. The structure of HCCP was characterized by FT-IR, Raman and melting point test. The synthetic process was also optimized. Then HCCP was applied on linen fabric, the treated fabric express extraordinary flame retardancy. However, its drawback, easy to hydrolysis, bad washability and high halogen content has limited its application on fabric. Flame retardant finish of linen fabric was carried with the complex system of HCCP and degraded chitosan(JCH). Through investigation of different factors such as flame retardant dosage, compound ratio, pH value and soaping, the best finishing process was confirmed. In this paper, chitosan derivative JCHP-1 was prepared with JCH and HCCP. It was characterized by Raman and XPS. Due to the molecular weight of JCH is big, it can not be replaced all Cl atom, so make the JCHP-1 react with ethanol to reduce the halogen content. Through optimize the synthetic conditions determined the best synthetic route. Then JCHP was used as a flame-retardant additive for linen fabric. Effect of phosphorus content and reagent dosage on flame retardancy, strength and whiteness of the finished fabric was discussed, and the durability was also tested. Scanning electron microscope(SEM), X-ray photoelectron emission microscopy(XPS), X-ray diffraction(XRD) and Thermo gravimetric analysis(TG) were used to research the treated fabric. Besides, PM-3633 was complexed with JCHP by two-bath finishing to discuss multi-fuctional finishing include water-oil repellent and flame retardant.
