In this paper, a flax flame retardant intermediate PX was synthesized by dimethylphosphonate and maleic anhydride, and characterized structurally by IR. Optimum conditionsof PX synthetic reaction were found out by the orthogonal test and the single factor analysis.The maximum yield of PX was reached that the reaction time is5h, the temperature is60℃,the reactant ratio is1to1.5, the dosage of the catalyst is0.5g. The afterflame time,smoldering time, white degree and fabric breaking strength of PX finishing linen fabric werecontrasted to the national standards to be shown the PX effect on the flame retardant finishinglinen fabric. Though the orthogonal experiment, the researching indication is shown that thebest condition is that the bath ratio is1∶20, the quality concentration of finishing agent is30%, curing temperature is170℃and the curing time is3min. In this concentration, theflame retardant finishing’s linen fabric has a best flame retardation that the afterflame time is0.7s, the smoldering time is0.9s, the damaged length is4.6cm.Degradable chitosans were gotten by oxidation process, and the chitosan were separatedto different molecular weight A, B, C by double solvents. With the method for thedetermination of reducing sugar, molecular weight was determined and computed the degreeof polymerization. The chitosan’s derivatives were prepared with polymerization degree of8-16and PX, and characterized structurally by IR, and the substitution degree was determinedby potentiometric titration. The chitosan’s derivative of different substitution degree was usedin the flame retardant finishing on linen fabric. The afterflame time, smoldering time, whitedegree and fabric breaking strength were determined to be shown the influence on the flameretardant finishing. The experimental results shows that the bath ratio is1∶20, thesubstitution degree is0.682and the quality concentration of finishing agent is20%, curingtemperature is160℃and the curing time is3min. In this concentration, the flame retardantfinishing’s linen fabric has a best flame retardation that the afterflame time is0.6s, thesmoldering time is0.7s, the damaged length is2.1cm.
