Poyang Lake is the largest freshwater lake and plays an important role in the protection of the Yangtze River water quantity and water quality safety. Poyang Lake region is an important commodity grain and oil base and aquaculture, livestock breeding place in China. It is inevitable that the pollutants produced in surrounding rural living would be a threat to the Poyang Lake. In order to understand the environmental impact of pollution in the rural area of Binhu District on Poyang Lake, we investigated the rural ecological environment of Binhu District(including the rural living and social economic condition) and the extent of pollution on the environment by agricultural product processing industry(including Grain and oil processing industry, livestock processing industry and aquatic products processing industry) by financing assistance of major science and technology projects ——“Scientific Investigation of Poyang Lake” in Jiangxi Province.. Here are the mainly conclusions:(1) For the first time, we made a comprehensive statistics that the total rural population in the 19 municipals and counties is 9582810, 2389569 households and 4.01 people per household, and the resident population was about 6,746,920.(2)The rural sewage emissions of 19 municipal and counties in Binhu District is92,628,980 tons(excluding toilet discharge). The solid waste emissions are 2,253,224 tons, Of which 292,979 tons of recyclable garbage, compostable garbage 1,442,062 tons,495,728 tons of non-recyclable garbage, hazardous waste 22,533 tons. These may have adverse effects on Poyang Lake water quality construction.(3)The rural gate pond water quality in 11 counties of Binhu District in Poyang Lake are eutrophic.(4) The large amounts of solid waste and waste water produced in agricultural product processing industry can be utilization, and are also the degradation products which basically do not pollute the environment and rural Poyang Lake water body.(5) In each year, 1885100 pigs, 60700 cattle and 28310400 other poultry like chicken and duck are killed in poultry processing industry in Binhu District. The feces and urine emissions by these poultry contain 179.85 tons of nitrogen and 46.15 tons of phosphorus which do harm the water quality of Poyang Lake.In short, the current situation of rural ecological environment of Poyang Lake is poor, pollutants generated in rural life and production is one of the important pollution sources of Poyang Lake water body.
