The surface tensions of monoethanolamine(MEA)-polyethylene glycol 400(PEG400), diethanolamine(DEA)-PEG400, MEA-1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate([Bmim][BF4]), MEA-1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide([Bmim][Br]) DEA-[Bmim][BF4] and DEA-[Bmim][Br] aqueous solutions were measured by using the BZY-1 surface tension meter. For amine-PEG400 mixture, the temperatures ranged from 298.2 to 323.2 K, and the mass fractions of amines and PEG400 respectively ranged from 0.20 to 0.30 and 0 to 0.10. For amine- ionic liquids(ILs) mixture, the temperatures ranged from 293.2 to 323.2 K, and the mass fractions of amines and ILs respectively ranged from 0.15 to 0.30 and 0 to 0.10. A thermodynamic equation was proposed to model the surface tensions of the binary and ternary mixtures and the calculated results agreed well with the experiments. The effects of temperature, mass fractions of amines, PEG400 and ILs on the surface tensions were demonstrated on the basis of experiments and calculations. Our results show that:(1) The increase of the temperature and the mass fractions of amines, PEG400 and ILs tend to decrease the surface tensions of both binary and ternary mixtures;(2) In the present ranges of temperature and mass fraction of amines, PEG400 and ILs, the surface tensions of ternary aqueous solutions decrease almost linearly with increasing temperature, however, the relationship between the surface tension and the mass fraction of PEG400 and ILs cannot be described by linear functions;(3)The surface tensions of MEA–[Bmim][Br], DEA–[Bmim][BF4] and DEA–[Bmim][Br] aqueous solutions decrease with increasing mass fraction of amine, however, the surface tensions of MEA–[Bmim][BF4] aqueous solutions increase with increasing mass fraction of MEA;(4) The proposed model correctly captures the effects of temperature, mass fractions of amines, PEG400 and ILs on the surface tensions, and the calculated results agree well with the experimental data.
