Mechanized mining face is the core sites of coalmine. Hydraulic stands play an important role in supporting mechanized mining face, which can prevent the rocks above the roof falling down upon person and equipment. In order to scientifically manage mine production safely, reduce the roof falling accident, it is necessary to monitor the condition of hydraulic stands of all mechanized mining face.It has a low measuring accuracy, low working efficiency and so on in that traditional pressure monitor system, while it adopts the wired transmission mechanism and it is complicated to wiring in the more advanced hydraulic stands monitor system. Therefore this article applied the advanced wireless sensor networking technology to hydraulic stands pressure monitor system according to the actual running environment of mechanized mining face, to solve the existed problem in the monitoring system of wired transmission.Firstly, according to the actual running situation of mechanized mining face, several kinds of wireless communication technology was analyzed, the technology of ZigBee was chosen to monitoring the pressure of hydraulic stands. Considering the characteristics of the underground wireless transmission, network topology of the mine pressure monitoring system using wireless sensor network(WSN) was carried out, the whole system design was completed as well.The monitoring system takes the pressure of hydraulic stands as the monitoring object, it is composed of the terminal acquisition nodes, routing node and center substation(Sink node). In order to reduce the mining accident, optimizing and reducing the power consumption of the monitoring system in design, the hardware was designed optimally and the tactics of reducing power consumption was adopted in the software. The terminal acquisition nodes were installed on each of the hydraulic stand to monitor the pressure, routing nodes receive and transmit data to Sink node in multiple hops way, then the data in Sink node is displayed on the screen, it was transferred to PC through the RS485. The communication between the nodes and power consumption of the terminal node was tested. The result indicates that this system runs stably,in low cost, as well with a high measurement precision, etc. The reliability of the monitoring reduces the mining accidents, improving the safety of the personal and equipment, enhancing the stability of the system in designing and the system’s service life.
