With the growing needs of the community, the performance of medical dressing is required higher and higher by the patient. Medical dressing is not only to protect the wound, but also to provide an enabling environment for healing. So medical dressing should be modified to improve the performance.In this paper, low price and extensive source absorbent cotton gauze has been c hosen as raw material. The single factor analytical method has been used to find t he optimum technological condition including the way of alkali treatment, the dosa ge of alkali, etherifying agent and acid according to the sanitation standard WS-10001-(HD-0413)-2002. And the medical dressing was confirmed by IR, XRD and S EM etc. It’s shown that, when the absorbent cotton gauze is alkaline treated by 20% sodium hydroxide solution for 20 min, and etherificatied by 5g chloroacetic aci d for 45 min at 60℃, then react with 0.6mol/L HCl solution, we get the soluble medical dressing of DS=39%, 7.2% of sodium content, 7.5 of p H and 4.19% of weight loss.Then, in order to prepare both soluble and antibacterial medical dressing, the single factor analytical method has been used to find the optimum technological condition through chemical reduction method to introduce nano silver. And the medical dressing was confirmed by IR, UV, XRD and SEM etc. At the same time, the experiment researched the antimicrobial activity against E. coli and staphylococcus aureus. It’s shown that, when 0.02mol/L ascorbic acid solution is 800μL, 0.01mol/L silver ammonia solution is 3mL, PVP as stabilizer, the temperature is 30℃,and the time is 35 min, we can get a kind of soluble and antibacterial medical dressing with nano silver. And this medical dressing has obvious inhibiting effects on E. coli and staphylococcus aureus.Finally, the performance of moisture retention and hygroscopicity of the soluble medical dressing, nano silver soluble and antibacterial medical dressing and the absorbent cotton gauze was compared. It’s shown that, the 24 h moisture rate of these three medical dressings are 51.60%, 37.61% and 13.82%, respectively. The 3 h moisture absorption rate are 23.88%、17.85% and 4.86%,respectively. The moisture absorption kinetics equations are t/qt=0.03998 + 0.00412 t, t/qt=0.04401 + 0.00534 t and t/qt=0.58822 +0.02053 t, respectively. And they follow the pseudo-second-order kinetics.
