China’s coal production safety is always closely linked with the safety of miners, and mine gas explosion often affects the heart, nerve-wracking. China’s coal mine gas terminology is translated from English gas, single-finger methane (CH4). Therefore, the concentration of methane is an important factor affecting mine safety, and detected concentration of methane is the most common way to reduce accident rate. At present, China coal mine methane monitoring generally have two methods, one by the professionals to carry portable gas detector to detect a timing point, that is not comprehensive and cannot form a network; the second is to use as a basis for industrial bus, but lines need to have the establishment and maintenance professionals, and wiring difficulties, limited, inflexible, prone to blind spots.Compared to existing coal mine methane concentration detection technology, this paper presents a detection system based on wireless sensor network.Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) have many advantages, a simple structure, high efficiency, low cost, safe and reliable. This system based on wireless sensor networks, which contain detecting methane concentration, wireless data communications, the concentration limit alarm, display real-time concentration data changes, historical data storage and other functions, and it can directly monitor the underground methane concentration on the ground and effectively realize function of real-time detection and monitoring of the mine methane concentration.In this paper, use a metal oxide semiconductor sensor for detecting the concentration of methane, selecting MATLAB software for sensor calibration physically, TI’s CC2530 for microprocessor company, ZigBee protocol stack for wireless communication network, LABView software design-friendly HMI interface.Successfully build the system, through several experiments to test results, the nodes can capture the methane concentration in real-time and accurate data,and the sensitivity of detection concentration is 8.29; the system can transmit data fast networking; PC software can accurately monitor the underground methane concentration changes in real time, and the average detection error of system is within 4%.
