Since its inception in early 20 th century, the Art Deco style have led the fashion throughout Europe and globally for nearly half a century. Under the influence of decorative arts schools, many Art Deco designers made their debuts and most of them stood out in the area of jewelry design.This thesis will analysis the following aspects by focusing on the relationship between the jewelries of Art Deco era and their designers:First, the origin and feature of Art Deco school. Art Deco style was the most influential design method in 1820 s, which had been widely applied to many fields of design. And jewelry design distinctively featured with the method to show the post-war psychological needs and spiritual pursuit.Second, the jewelry designers promotion to Art Deco style. In the early 20 th century, the jewelry designers strongly inspired the ideas of Art Deco style. This thesis will analyze this fact by introducing some famous designers, their representative work and their impact on the moving forward of Art Deco.Third, the jewelry brand designers’ influence. In the early 20 th century, the major luxury brand began to design jewelries for nobility and middle class, in order to meet post-war psychological needs of self-liberation. At the same time, the prevailing Art Deco design was getting its population among ordinary people, which timely provided the public aesthetic methods for brand designers. The ordinary aesthetic needs and the luxurious pursuit of designers worked together for the flourish of Art Deco.Fourth, after the in-depth study of Art Deco school, the study point returning to contemporary design. For the design practice, the thesis will briefly introduce some contemporary Art Deco works and study their artistic language.In short, through the research of the relationship between Art Deco and European jewelry designers, the thesis analyses the unique artistic features and the aesthetic intent of designers, and using the Art Deco elements to make some relative attempts, which provides reference for the future design.
