Piping material design for coal-chemical industry is a complex process of engineering design base on knowledge and experiences, at the same time it is a key phase of coal-chemical plant design. Piping material discipline of NB company has lots of design experiences for coal-chemical. But in the long process of design, the lack of the effective summarized, classified, and stored of domain knowledge and design examples. The related knowledge has not obtained the effective sharing and reuse. That can lead to longer design cycle, higher design cost, and it is not conducive to improve the design efficiency and quality. So, how to realize the research of knowledge acquirement and classification, representation, storage, and building knowledge base and knowledge base management system, is a very important problem. This thesis is base on the theory of knowledge base. The knowledge base system will be introduced to the process of piping material design. This thesis research the process of the coal-chemical piping material design, the characteristics of knowledge, the acquirement of knowledge, the representation of knowledge, the reasoning mechanism, and building the knowledge base prototype system of piping material design for typical coal-chemical plant. The domain knowledge and design examples will be summarized, classified, and stored in the knowledge base system. It can be realized the sharing and reuse of coal-chemical piping material design knowledge by this knowledge base system. So as to shorten design cycle, reduce the design cost, and improve the design efficiency and quality.
