Requirements of tool design and manufacture have become increasingly in the processing industry. Studying how to improve tool design method and improve the production efficiency of the tool that is of decisive significance for the whole mechanical processing industry. Hardened steel is widely used in the processing and manufacturing industry. There is a series of serious problems that include larger cutting force, higher cutting temperature, easily wear and tear for tool, serious surface hardening and uncertain processing quality in the cutting process. PC BN tool is used more and more widely because of excellent physical, chemical and mechanical properties in machining of hardened steel.This paper studied that include the influencing rules of geometric and cutting parameters to cutting force, surface roughness of workpiece, flank abrasion, chip shape, cutting temperature and residual stress in the cutting hardened steel process with PC BN tools, how to improve the method of threedimensional modeling, which provides important theoretical guidance to raise the level of machining process, economical effic iency and the speed of the model design and manufacture, concrete research conte nt is as follows:Firstly, experiments of cutting hardened steel with PC BN tool were done. Single factor experiments were selected to research influencing rules of tool geometric parameters and cutting parameters to cutting force, surface roughness of workpiece, flank abrasion and chip shape in cutting process. O rthogonal experiments were selected to research influencing rules of different tool radius and cutting parameters to cutting force, surface roughness of workpiece and flank abrasion in cutting process. The influencing rules of test parameters were obtained which provides guidance to complete the actual high quality cutting production.Secondly, simulation researches of cutting hardened steel with PC BN tool were made. The influencing rules of tool geometric parameters to the cutting force, cutting temperature and residual stress were researched, which verified the important effects of the above test parameters to experiments process and provides further support to improve the actual high quality manufacturing and processing level.Again, through the parametric method of GRIP technology, modeling method of PC BN tool were established. Subsequently, automatically establishing 3D model of PC BN turning tool for processing hardened steel were quickly realized. Then, finite element analyses were made to the established models. The above provided guides for high efficiency design of other tools.Finally, basing on C # language and modeling method, superhard tool platform was empoldered in the development environment of Visual Studio software. The automatic generation of GRIP program can be implemented in the UG modeling environment by selecting the parameters in the platfor m interface, which realize the automatic establishment of the 3D model of the tool and provides referential significance for design modeling of other special tools.
