Arsenic and fluoride pollution of natural water is a worldwide problem, and it brings a variety of damage to human body. The WHO stipulates the content of arsenic and fluoride in drinking water should not be more than 10μg/L and 1.5 mg/L. Tens of millions people in our country are still plagued by high arsenic and fluoride drinking water, so it’s significant to develop a good, cheap, efficient and selective material for arsenic and fluoride removal.In this paper, We synthesized four kinds of zirconium loaded resin by different methods, then examined the adsorption efficiency of arsenic and fluoride respectively, and screened out the best arsenic removal resin D201-Zr and fluoride removal resin D401-Zr. The preparation process of D201-Zr and D401-Zr were optimized, and the result indicated that the optimal D201-Zr preparation process were as follows:lOg for the mass of ZrOCl2, HCl-NaCl mole ratio was 0.3:0.3 (0.6mol) and the temperature of 30℃, the optimal D401-Zr preparation process were as follows:5g for the mass of ZrOCl2 and the temperature of 30℃. D201-Zr and D201 were observed by SEM, and the specific surface area, pore diameter, pore volume and zirconium content were also measured. D201-Zr and D401-Zr were studied in adsorption of arsenic and fluoride respectively, including the influence of pH on adsorption, adsorption kinetics, isothermal adsorption study, the influence of competitive anions on adsorption, column experiments as well as the stability and safety study. The results showed that the optimal pH of arsenic adsorption was 7.0, and the maximum adsorption quantity was 83.24 mg/g. When the arsenic concentration of water was 1.0 mg/L (excluding competitive anion), and 10μg/L was regarded as the breakthrough point of the effluent, the maximum capacity could reach 2900 BV. The column experiment of D401-Zr under neutral condition indicated that when the fluoride concentration of water was 10 mg/L, the fluoride concentration after treatment could be dropped to 1.0 mg/L. If 1.0 mg/L was regarded as the breakthrough point of the effluent, the maximum capacity could reach 80 BV.In this paper, the zirconium loaded resin D201-Zr and D401-Zr have many advantages, such as:preparation process is simple, low preparation cost, good adsorption performance and high stability and safety, so it has a good prospect in the field of water treatment.
