In recent years, with the increasing complexity of CNC equipment, more and more problems appear in the reliability and safety of the numerical control system, and the possibility of system failure is also increased. How to reduce the faults, how to improve the utilization ratio, and how to ensure the machining quality of CNC machine tools, have gradually become a major problem faced by today’s enterprises.The main purpose of the monitoring technology of CNC machine tools is to ensure CNC machine tools can run safely and stably,and improve the production efficiency of enterprises.In this paper, the CNC machine tools which are installed with SIEMENS 840 D system is taken as the research object, and the actual situation of the numerical control workshop of a machinery manufacturing company is taken as a condition. A software system for remote monitoring of CNC machine tools is developed in order to improve the existing monitoring system. The main research content is as follows:1. Data acquisition scheme of SIEMENS 840 D CNC system is proposed. The internal structure, the interface, the hardware structure and the software system is investigated for SIEMENS 840 D CNC system, the scheme based on OPC specification is chosen to accomplish the data acquisition.2. Composition and communication framework of the monitoring system is suggested. Composition and Network framework for communication among modules is construted after the analysis of existing software and hardware conditions of a machinery manufacturing company.3. The expansibility of the monitoring system is investigated. Based on the analysis of Composition and communication framework of the monitoring system, the expansibility of the system is shown.4. The strategy of data storage is investigated. After studying the data transfer mode of the acquired data, and the construction method of data table, the strategy of data storage is developed.5. Each part of the software system is designed. The components of the software system are introduced and designed in detail, including the web pages, the client data collection software, the data transfer software, and the early warning software which based on the technology of plug-in. The implementation of network communication between different modules, the related operation between the modules, the data storage strategy, and the concurrent processing scheme are alse investigated.6. The monitoring software system is tested. The functions of the system are tested by taking the installation and adjustment of a machinery manufacturing company as test cases of the monitoring system,.Finally the performance testing of this system is finished using relative test tools.
