Casting is a material forming process that made the metal from the hot liquid to a solid. The process requires mutual cooperation of a variety of steps to ensure that process can be successfully accomplished. The quality of a casting components has a great extent dependent on the experience, skills and expertise knowledge of casting experts. In order to solve the casting problems, we should generally seek help from experts who can use their extensive experience and knowledge to answer. This process is in line with the working process of expert system, the problem occured during the casting process are very suitable for the development of expert systems. With the further increasing demand of expert system technology and digital casting, the application of casting expert system technology will be more widely. In this paper, the system use Java as a programming language and Myeclipse as the system development environment to develop an aluminum casting process design systems which can provide a reference for the aluminum casting process design. Design data generated by the design process can be stored in a knowledge database which will facilitate the management and use of design data. With this software designers can design casting process on the basis of specific process rules or make some customizations to meet their own needs.The system consists of four modules which named casting method chosing, the casting process parameters, gating system design and Feeding System design. In casting method chosing module, we can get the correct casting method by entering the component information, quality requirements and performance requirements. In the casting process parameters module, we establish a database which contains mechanical allowance, the minimum pore size and taper angle, etc.. we can inquire the database to get necessary data. In the gating system design module, we can select the mode of pouring, determine the pouring system position, calculate gating system cross-sectional area of each component and calculate each component size and select shape. In the feeding system design module, we set up the riser knowledgebase. The knowledgebase can be added, searched and adapted. The system will calculate the modulus of components and riser to determine the riser location, type and size. In this module, we can also determine placement chills, weight and thickness by calculating the modulus of the components.
