ZnO due to its own characteristics, has been widely used in chemical, medical and other industries, also caused lots of attention. But the traditional processing methods required the long reaction period and high temperature burning, does not adapt to the processing of polymeric materials. But the microwave processing can not affect the properties of polymer materials and finished the coating processing.In the research we used the microwave method to prepare ZnO coating on low-density polyethylene(LDPE), polyethylene grafted maleic acid anhydride(LDPE-g-MAH), acrylonitrile butadiene styrene plastic(ABS) and polyethylene terephthalate(PET) surface, and further studied the factors which influenced the coating process.The concentration of zinc acetate, reaction time and surface roughness were controlled separately to inspect the factors which affect the ZnO particles during coating process. The article also compared the ZnO coating on LDPE and polyethylene grafted maleic acid anhydride (LDPE-g-MAH) surfaces. The X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanned electron microscope (SEM), contact angle, attachment density and transmittance were employed to study the changes on the surface.From The experiment some conclusions were obtained:the microwave method was an effective way to make ZnO crystallize on plastic surface. two major morphology of ZnO particles were found. The flower-like grain appeared under the low concentration of zinc acetate or short-time reaction condition, the rod-like particles were observed under high concentration of zinc acetate and long-time reaction condition. Attachment density and contact angle increased as the concentration of zinc acetate or reaction time grown. But the transmittance presented the decreased tendency.The Surface roughness was another important aspect to influence the coating processing. The rough surface can promote the crystallization. And LDPE-g-MAH had a positive advance to the ZnO coating process when compared with LDPE.Therefore, the ZnO coating processing by microwave method need to consider the material properties, the reaction time, the zinc ion concentration and surface roughness of material comprehensively.
