In recent years, with the oil exploration difficulty gradually increases, oil and gas production continued to decline, energy consumption increased year by year, the tons of oil costs continue to increase, the proportion of energy consumption in the cost of production is increasing. Oilfield enterprises to carry out energy efficiency benchmarking activities to improve energy efficiency have become an important measure to reduce energy consumption and thus lower production costs.In this paper, according to the theory of energy efficiency benchmarking. Researching the necessity and feasibility of energy efficiency benchmarking in our country’s oilfield on the basis of domestic and foreign about energy efficiency benchmarking method and benchmarking management related literature.The results show that energy efficiency benchmarking activities conducive to China’s oilfield find their own problems, identify gaps, and thus targeted to develop a variety of effective measures by analyzing and understanding these gaps can significantly enhance China oilfield energy efficiency, reduce energy consumption and production costs, so as to further enhance the international influence and competitiveness. At present, China oilfield making energy efficiency mostly found index system is not perfect, index calculation caliber is not uniform and it is difficult to select benchmarking units and other issues, so a comprehensive research on oilfield energy efficiency benchmarking methods and a establishment of energy efficiency benchmarking indicator system and evaluation system can provide technical guidance for China oilfield conduct energy efficiency benchmarking.According to the framework of energy efficiency benchmarking index system, and the analysis about the process and energy consumption equipment’s operation of oilfield mechanical oil production system, water injection system, gathering and transportation system Selecting different indicators established energy benchmarking indicator system of oilfield main production system for comprehensive, independent, comparable, measurable principles. The index system includes four first-class indexes, six second-class indexes and four third-class indexes.At the same time, according to the specific circumstances of the oilfield, using the benchmarking and statistical methods to establish an oilfield’s energy efficiency benchmarking evaluation system. Finally, from the oilfield survey, data collection to the selected indicators, and the comparison of the data, selecting benchmark unit and put forward measures to analysis oilfield production system’s energy efficiency benchmarking activities with the oilfield’s actual cases.
