Copper starting sheet is the major part of the copper electrolysis refining system, whose stiffness and verticality are important to the stability of electrolytic operation and improve to the quality of electrolytic copper. It’s an important issue how to improve the quality of copper starting sheet to the scholars devoted in copper electrolytic industry. However, the development of nonferrous metal forming technology starts late and the theory foundation is not perfect when compared with the black metal shaping technology. In addition, the mechanical performance is different between the copper starting sheet and conventional copper, such as red copper. And the mechanical properties of copper starting sheets are not the same in different manufacturers. In the long term, there has been no significant progress in the forming technology of the copper starting sheet.Therefore, in this paper, it is studied in depth how to improve the stiffness and the verticality based on the related references. With the combination of simulation analysis and experimental research, the following aspects of research work are carried out. By studying the definition of the stiffness and the definition of the copper starting sheet, The mechanical properties of the copper starting sheet were measured by the tensile test. Compared with the existing two kinds of copper starting sheet shaping technology, the scheme of wide pattern compression and pat is proposed. Three working parameters chosed namely the width of the embossed pattern, the depth of the indentation, and the indentation method, which are the main factors influencing the stiffness and the verticality of the copper starting sheet. And on this basis, an orthogonal experiment of three factors and three levels is designed. The effects of these three factors on the stiffness and the verticality of copper starting sheet are studied by using DEFORM-3D software, and the best combination of working parameters is fined out. According to the results of orthogonal experiment, the effects that the depth of the pressing lines influences on the suspension of copper starting sheet is further studied.It’s found that the elastic modulus of copper starting sheet is only 12.86GPa, which has greater difference compared with conventional copper. The depth of compression has the greatest influence on the stiffness, and the way of embossing has the greatest influence on the degree of suspension. The embossing forming is better when the embossed width is 75mm, the pressure lines depth is 2mm and the compression pattern is the middle to both sides. At the same time, the stiffness of the copper plate is increased by 4 times and the suspension degree is 11mm, which can meet production requirements. The experimental results verify the rationality of the scheme of wide pattern embossing. Moreover, the influence of the compression depth on the verticality is not obvious. It can be obtained from the research a reference for the copper starting plastic technologies and the further research on the improvement of the stiffness and the verticality of copper starting sheet.
