Walking beam is the key equipment of billet rolling in the heating furnace, which is composed of fixed beams and moving beams, moving beams is driven by the hydraulic cylinder system, moving beams lift hundreds of tons of steel billets step by step from the billet charging side to the out side, doing the rectangular movement in the order of rising, forward, down and backward to complete the heating process.When the moving beam is rising and moving to the same height of the fixed beam, the moving beam will hold the steel billets, due to the large quality of the steel billets, in the process, the speed of the moving beam will have a certain degree of falling, at the same time, The velocity of the walking beam should ensure the production rhythm and guarantee the gently handle of the billet to avoid the damage of moving beam and the fixed beam. Considering all these factors, the walking beam system has step load disturbances, and also affected by the spilling of the oil, so it is difficult to insure a accurate control of the walking beam speed and displacement. Currently, most of the domestic factories use open-loop to control the speed of the walking beam, however, in the open-loop control, system control precision and dynamic performance can not be guaranteed, and sometimes the damage caused by collision to the walking beam will occur, and even lead to an accident.By analyzing the principle of the walking beam system and the working parameters, mathematical models were designed based on quadratic optimal control. For the method of billet load disturbance feedforward control, the speed of movement of the front beam generated when the level of the fall in billet hold feed-forward compensation. The method of quadratic optimal control, improve the speed of the walking beam tracking performance, and to achieve accurate control of displacement. Finally, Meanwhile, the system is simulated by Simulink Toolbox of Matlab, the simulation results show that a good control method overcomes the disturbance load This method can realize accurate tracking of the speed and accurate control of the displacement of the walking beam and meet the requirements.
