In the process of cigarette feeding, it is one of the processes of cigarette feeding to use the nozzle spraying the liquid to form a droplet atomization field and mix with tobacco which is moving in drum. The whole process of feeding was conducted in the complex flow field. The atomization characteristics of nozzle will directly influence the effect of tobacco feeding. However, in the actual feeding process, the control, which is about the atomization of the nozzle, is mostly regulated based on experience. The result of with the method has the experience and the uncertainty factor, and is lacked of deep research on the atomization of the feeding nozzle. it will not be beneficial to the conducive to the consistency and the stability of the quality of tobacco leaf feeding.In this paper, the existing problems in the process of cigarette feeding were analyzed. The paper studies the atomization characteristics of the feeding nozzle in the process as the key point to solve the problem. Using theory to analyze the atomization mechanism of the nozzle. The atomization characteristics of the feeding nozzle were studied by the method of CFD simulation and experimental study. It explores the relation between the atomization characteristics of the nozzle and the effect of tobacco leaf. The main research work and results are as follows:(1) The mechanism of atomization and breakup of liquid is expounded by using the relevant atomization theory, and the atomization characteristics of the feed nozzle are analyzed. Then, the parameters of the nozzle spray characteristics were established to evaluate the effect of tobacco feeding.(2) Atomization characteristics of the nozzle were simulated by Fluent of CFD software. First, the flow characteristics of spray gas were analyzed. It was found that the mutation of gas flow channel structure will affect the stability of the gas flow, and directly affect the atomization effect of the nozzle. The measures to improve the flow channel are put forward through the analysis. Secondly, multiphase flow simulation analysis was carried out on the spray characteristics of the nozzle. The effects of air injection pressure, gas liquid relative velocity and air injection angle on the atomization characteristics of the feed nozzle were obtained. Further reveals the mechanism of nozzle atomization.(3) The paper designed and built the test platform of the cigarette feeding test, and the nozzle atomization characteristics were studied. The results show that different parameters such as air injection pressure and liquid flow rate have different effects on the atomization characteristics of the nozzle. It provides a new way of thinking and theoretical guidance for the detection and research of the effect of feeding of the cigarette.(4) Original nozzle is improved according to the analysis of the problems existing in the feeding process. Through the contrast experiment of improving nozzle and original nozzle. The results show that the nozzle is more uniform than the original one, and the liquid content is more stable.
