Wood Plastic Composites (WPC) are deemed as an environment-friend material that meet the standard of sustainable development, which are widely used for several fields such as housewares. The flame retardancy of wood-plastics composites was an significant problem that is of great significance owing to the easy flammability of both wood flour (fibre) and plastics. In this article, an environmentally friendly flame-retardant (melamine polyphosphate) with other synergistic effects additives were prepared by filling into the HDPE/WF composites, and polyethylene grafted with maleic anhydride (PE-g-MAH) were used as good compatibility to increase the mechanical strength of the HDPE/WF composites. The aim of this work was to research the effects of MPP with other synergistic effects additives, whether or not they can enhance mechanical properties and the fire-retardant the HDPE/WF composites were discuss ed based on mechanical measure, limiting oxygen index (LOI) test, vertical burning instrument, thermogravimetric analysis, cone calorimetry and SEM.And PAH as a flame retardant, enhances the flame retardancy and thermal decomposition properties of HDPE/WF composites. The SEM photographs reveal that in the presence of PAH, the residual char is more intense, the results indicated that PAH has good atibility and promoted char formation in HDPE/WF composites. when the flame retardant amount reach 35%, the LOI of the composite achieve 29.6%, can reach UL-94 fire standard, V-0 rating.The flame retardant composites were filled by MPP and ZB. The results demonstrated that the LOI of the composite improve reach 30.5%, can pass through UL-94 flammability standard, V-0 rating of WPC with 40 wt% of MPP/ZB (7:2), combustion performance test showed that it had smoke suppression effect and good flame retardance.A synergistic effect between MPP and nano-SiO2 displayed high efficiency in flame retardance of the HDPE/WF composites, The mechanical properties、the flame retardancy properties and thermal stability are improved. The systems can make more mechanical strength and have better thermal stability and flame retardancy properties at the optimum ratio of MPP/nano-SiO2 (4:1), kept the 38 wt% total material of additives.
