Optimization of gathering and transportation system for the design of oil field stations is the most important aspect of oil field upstream production engineering. The purpose of gathering and transferring system is to collect or gather oil and gas from all the production wells and transfer them to the oil field stations for separation, metering, purification, pressurization, etc. Oil field stations construction is a big project which demands a huge investment cost and for that matter it is very important to optimize the construction of oil field gathering and transferring system in order to save investment cost and ensure a smooth production operation management. It is an established fact that oil field optimization of gathering and transportation network is a major factor for increasing production rate and reducing production investment cost. Basically, petroleum production engineering operation is mainly concern with oil and gas production of an oil field right from the point the hydrocarbons flow into the production wells, through the upstream stations and production facilities and to the final point of sale. In this work we describe the formulation of mathematical models and optimization solution methods for the upstream production operation problem of high investment cot of gathering and transferring system.. This major upstream oil and gas production problem is widely reported operation problem that is chiefly constrained by reservoir conditions, flow characteristics of the pipeline network and capacity of the surface facilities. While some aspects of these problems have been studied by other investigators, existing methods are either inefficient or they are based on significant simplifications that lead to suboptimal solutions. Hence, it is necessary to develop approaches that can solve the problems efficiently and without unreasonable assumptions. We first consider efficient procedures for simulating the upstream production system and computing sensitivity coefficients of production rate relative to system parameters. These procedures have useful applications in simulation, sensitivity analysis and optimization of upstream petroleum production. We then focused on the field stations allocation problem, which refers to the determination of the optimal location of field stations subject to multiple constraints..
