Rubber is an important component part of sound absorption and damping noise reduction materials, it has been widely used in aerospace, navigation, transportation, construction and other fields. But its function and range of application are limited to the rubber material itself,so it cannot satisfy the needs of a variety of applications occasion. Therefore, the structure of rubber sound-absorbing are changed by many researchers, such as porous structure on the surface of rubber material, or by changing the hole size or shape to adjust the effective elastic modulus and loss, and enhancing the sound absorption performance of material to achieve the purpose.Some methods are commonly used for drilling hole on surface of rubber in current time, such as mechanic processing, vulcanization molding. Although the machining is higher efficiency and lower cost, but to the high elastic rubber, their quality of processing are often difficult to control, and the processing of profiled hole are also difficult to complete. As to the vulcanization molding method, its characteristics are adopting the designed die to direct molding, and there are often part of the materials left in the die when demoulding, this will cause the cementation or difficult to demould, and the one-piece production may lead to a long period, high cost, difficult to adapt to demand of a single piece or small mass customized. In addition, these methods are difficult to achieve the holes below the 1mm.In contrast, laser pulse is adopted for drilling the hole, not only has it characters about high pulse energy, small heat affected zone, spot size, scan mode controllable, wide range of materials, but also it is very easy to control the depth of processing about blind hole, particularly it is suitable to process precision small holes. In currently, there are achieved good results on a variety of materials, such as various types of thin film materials, plastic, aluminum, steel and other applications. Referring to the literature date, there is little related reports about drilling on rubber damping materials by pulsed laser at present. The phenomena and mechanisms of interaction with the rubber material and laser need further study. Therefore, this paper will use nanosecond laser to carry out a related experiments of drilling on rubber damping material, observing this experiment’s special phenomenon, exploring changes in the mechanism of the rubber material under the laser’s effect, and laying the foundation for seeking the ideal solution to laser processing of rubber material in the future.Regularity by conducting a large number of experiments, the laser is used by drilling hole on the rubber surface in this paper, a result of the interaction is researched between them, the particularity and mechanism of drilling are analyzed with other materials, and the characteristics of various kinds of laser drilling method, which can be designed on the experimental study about laser drilling, the optimal parameters of laser drilling are selected on rubber material. By observing the state of the material which has been drilled, its main influencing factors and law are analyzed, such as rubber degradation, ablation, thermal influence, etc. In order to strengthen the performance of sound and shock absorption as rubber material, the influence of different parameters of laser drilling on the material are researched, the forming quality of hole is observed through experiments on SEM.
