Zr-based bulk metallic glasses(BMGs) is abulkof amorphous metal, with the excellent mechanical, physical and chemical properties, such as high strength, high hardness, high fracture toughness, low density, good corrosion resistance and resistance to radiation of high energy particles. it envisaged to have wide range functional and structural applications. But because of its high hardness and brittleness at room temperature, machining of Zr-based BMGs is difficulties to be machined. Here the cutting property and chipwere investigated systematically based on the materials of Zr41.2Ti13.8Cu12.5Ni10.0Be22.5bulk metallic glasses(Vit1).In order to understand milling forces properties of amorphous alloys, characteristics of milling forces and influence by cutting parameters are studied by orthogonal experi ment with samples contrast of Vit1 and 45 steels. The force empirical formula of mill ing force was established by using linear regression method under the experi-mental conditions. Experimental results show that there is the maximum amorphous alloys mil ling force in Y-axis, minimum in X-axis, and milling force in Y-axis is affected easily by changes in milling parameters, followed in X-axis and almost null in Z-axis. Axial depth and radial depth of cutting have impact on the milling force obviously, and very small effect on feed rate and cutting speed.Vit1 was cutted by carbide cutting tools without cutting fluid conditions, and chip and m orphology was studied. The results showed that: Vit1 chip is continuous ribon shape; emerge nce and development of Vit1 chips shear zone are heat process of change, a great heat change in the shear zone and its not fixe are the reason of Vit1 plastic deformation. It was studied that cutting parameters affect on surface roughness by Vit1 speed cutting on orthogonal experimental. The results showed that: Vit1 surface roughness factors by highspeed milling descend in order:f>vc>ap.In order to obtaina better surface roughness, it should choose a small amount of feed, high spindle speed and right axial depth.
